Much as I love Johnny Cash he's not really one of my favourite country artists. However, love his
brilliant rendition of 'I Could Never Be Ashamed Of You' featured here. Other highlights for me in a well crafted, thoughtful mix are Doug Sahm's 'On The Banks Of The Old Ponchartrain', Steve Young, Waylon and the wonderful George Jones. The Cowboy Junkies 'I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry' is, of course, sublime. But for all the brilliant Hank covers I've heard over the years Ray Charles 'You Win Again' is probably my favourite. Along with a bizarre affection for the Mekons version of 'Lost Highway'. Probably because it introduced me to the great man.
